(STRATHROY-CARADOC, ON) – On February 14, 2018, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 402, near Hickory Drive.
The brown, Chevrolet sedan was measured to be travelling at 163 kilometers per hour (km/h) in the 100 km/h zone.
A traffic stop was conducted, and as a result of the police investigation, John FILOTTI, 38-year-old male from Sarnia, Ontario, has been charged with race a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The vehicle was seized for 7 days, and the operator’s driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days.
The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) Driver’s Handbook states: The risk of a fatality or serious injury is almost five times greater for vehicles crashing at 50 km/h or more above the posted limit on a highway with a posted limit of 100 km/h.
