Driver Caught Going 132 In An 80

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Saturday July 04, 2015, around 11 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer charged another “high miler”. The officer was conducting patrols along Hwy 8, east of Shakespeare, when a fast moving car was observed. The officer activated the police radar and locked the Saab sedan’s speed on the police radar at 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Wayne RIEHL (53) of Kitchener was pulled over, and was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He is to appear at Stratford Court on July 28, 2015, to answer to the charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days. In addition, his Saab was towed from the scene and was impounded for a week.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. During inclement weather this task is even more difficult and more dangerous. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.

OPP would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
