DNA Helps Solve Five Break and Enters

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with several break and enters in Chatham.

On October 31, 2010, police investigated a break and enter at a business on McGregor Place where a computer was stolen.

On September 5, 2011, police investigated a break and enter at a worksite trailer on Ivan Street where electronic equipment with an approximate value of $7300 was stolen.

On December 20, 2011, police investigated a break and enter at a business on Grand Avenue East where copper wiring and a cordless telephone were stolen.

On August 31, 2012, police investigated a break and enter at a business on Grand Avenue East where an undisclosed amount of Canadian cash was stolen.

On October 9, 2012, police investigated a break and enter at a business on Richmond Street. Nothing was stolen as the man was scared off by the owner.

In each incident, police collected DNA from the scene. The DNA was sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for analysis where a profile was generated from each submission.

Yesterday morning, police arrested a 50-year-old man in Chatham. He has been charged with break and enter x5. He was transported to court pending a bail hearing.
