Distracted Driver In Owen Sound Crashes Into Light Standard

On August 25 2018 at approximately 3:45 am a 37 year old Owen Sound female was operating at 2005 GMC Envoy. The vehicle turned onto 10 th Street East from 4 th Avenue East in a west bound direction. The driver checked her phone attempting to confirm an address and in doing so took her attention away from the roadway. The vehicle jumped the sidewalk on the north side of 10 th Street and crashed into a light standard. The vehicle hit the post with enough force that it knocked off the light which came crashing down on the side walk. The pole itself remained standing but appears to be significantly damaged.

The female drove her vehicle onto the 1000 block of 3 rd Avenue East and eventually stopped in the parking lot of a local business. The vehicle sustained major damage and need to be towed from the scene. The female was transported to the hospital after complaining of soreness. After reviewing the evidence and speaking with witnesses the female was charged with using a handheld communication device and careless driving.
