(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Members from the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund (DMMF) will be making a special Automated External Defibrillator (AED) donation this Saturday afternoon at the Windmill Family Campground located on Road 163 just south of Fullarton.
The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund (DMMF) is dedicated to the donation of life-saving defibrillators to public buildings in the name of fallen Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS, and Military Members who have died in the line of duty. This 48th donation will be named in honour of fallen Perth County OPP officer Sam Ankenmann. Constable Ankenmann died on June 29, 1968, in an on-duty crash when he lost control of his cruiser and crashed in foggy conditions on Highway 7/8 near Stratford.
This special AED donation will be also honouring the late Candace Burnham. On Saturday, May 23, 2015 Perth County OPP and Perth County EMS responded to the Windmill Family Campground for a medical emergency involving 13 year old Candace Burnham, a young girl born with a heart condition. Despite providing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other lifesaving measures Candace died later that night in hospital.
Candace’s parents, Charlotte & Robert Burnham from Gowanstown are very moved to have this defibrillator donated in memory of their daughter. They understand that an AED may not have helped their daughter however knowing it will always be there to help the next person does bring a small measure of comfort to the family.
Members of the media and public are invited to attend the special ceremony scheduled to take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015. In addition to the ceremony, members from the St. John Ambulance will be providing a general First Aid tutorial and a demonstration of the AED.
