Deer Hit By Two Vehicles

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Friday November 08, 2013, around 5:50 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to Perth Road 131 north of Milverton where a deer was hit by two vehicles.

Investigation indicated that the deer crossed Perth Road 131 in an easterly direction when it was struck by a south bound Dodge Caravan. The deer landed in the north bound lane where it was struck by a north bound Hyundai Accent. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage but none of the vehicle occupants were injured.

Motorists are reminded that the deer are very active in Perth County at this time of the year. During the month of October the Perth County OPP investigated 25 car deer collisions. If past trends are indications November will also be a bad month for collisions.

October, November and December are peak times when deer and other types of wild animals venture out onto highways as this is their mating and migration time periods. Peak times for collisions are 5 a.m. – 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. – 11 p.m. Keep in mind though that an encounter with a deer may occur at any time.
