Daytime Break and Enter

The Owen Sound Police Service is investigating a daytime break and enter into an east side home.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., a couple had left their residence for a short morning outing. Within 15 minutes of leaving the residence, persons entered the house by the unlocked side door. Once inside the thieves targeted jewelry in the main bedroom and silverware in the dining room. It is believed that the entire theft lasted only a few minutes. The culprits were observed by a witness leaving the scene.

The suspects are described as being 40 to 50 years of age, medium to heavy build with slightly darker skin. The male was described as being 5’9, 220 lbs wearing a light couloured coat while the female was described as wearing a maroon coloured coat and being 5’2” and approximately 150 lbs.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the couple in the area between Harrison Park and the Mill Dam.

Police believe that these people may have been in the area previously and may have attended at other persons doors claiming that they were looking for work, distributing pamphlets or that they were at the “wrong house”.

To reduce the risk of becoming a victim, Police want to remind everyone to ensure their doors are locked even if they are sitting, working in their back or side yards or just out of the house for a walk. Also, while there are a lot of people who go door-to-door for legitimate and worthwhile reasons/causes, people must be cognizant of the criminal intent of some people.

Anyone in the city who has experienced a similar situation in the last week whereby they felt uneasy of someone at their door and did not report it to police are asked to call the Owen Sound Police Service, Criminal Investigation Branch at 519-376-1234.
