Darrell Horst Careless Driving On Snowmobile – One Sent To Hospital

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) On February 18, 2013 at approximately 12:12pm County of Wellington OPP officers responded to a collision involving two snowmobiles on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail west of Sailing Club Road in Mapleton Township.

Firefighters from the Mapleton Fire Department and Paramedics from Guelph-Wellington EMS responded to the scene as well.

The two snowmobiles collided on a curve in the trail. A 51 year old Wellesley area female was transported to Listowel hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries.

24 year old Darrell Horst from the Linwood area was charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act.

The OPP wish to remind riders to be safe when riding and offer the following tips:

– avoid alcohol until you are completely finished riding
– slow down while riding at night and wear reflective clothing
– stay on OFSC trails
– keep to the right side of the trail
– slow down on corners and when cresting hills
– wear an approved snowmobile helmet
– stop before crossing every road and railway track
– carry an emergency survival kit and cell phone
– ride with someone if possible and make sure you tell someone else of your route
