(HURON EAST, ON) – On May 12, 2012 at approximately 8:25 p.m. Huron County OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint on Brussels Line at the south end of Brussels when a white GMC pickup caught an officer’s attention. An officer observed the southbound pickup pull into a laneway and within a few minutes the driver reversed out and started traveling northbound on Brussels Line. Officers followed the pickup truck a short distance and stopped the vehicle on Brussels Line.
Upon speaking with the female driver, officers noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A search of the vehicle found open alcohol and a check on her licence status revealed she was a prohibited driver. Darlene MATEKOVIC, age 48, from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 milligrams of alcohol, Drive While Disqualified and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol. A court date is scheduled for May 28, 2012 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. Her vehicle has been impounded and she received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension. LP12125895
