Damage To The Memorial Forest

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) was informed of ongoing problems of damage caused at the West Perth Memorial Forest located along Napier Street near Eleanor Street in Mitchell.

The Memorial Forest is a park and green space, where as a community project people can donate funds towards a plaque on a tree as a memorial. This project is run by volunteers and private donations while the Municipality looks after the cutting of the grass. This quiet place has however been disturbed and damaged by persons who operate their ATV’s, dirt bikes and snowmobiles in the park.

The Perth County OPP would like to remind the public that motorized vehicles are not allowed in the park. The Municipality of West Perth as part of their by-law, has signs in place which clearly state that this type of activity is prohibited. This by-law will be enforced by police and violations will be investigated. Any person in contravention of this by-law is guilty of an offence and upon conviction is liable to a fine of $110.00 excluding court costs.

Residents are urged to contact the Perth County OPP immediately if they observe motorized vehicles or illegal activities in the park. Anyone with information on persons responsible for damaging the park is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
