The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 117 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
Man Charged with Resisting Arrest CK15014378
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following an incident in Chatham.
Yesterday around 5:30 p.m. police responded to a residence on McNaughton Avenue West as a man was being blocked in the driveway by the homeowner. The man attended the home to serve the homeowner legal documents. The homeowner moved his vehicle and would not allow the man to leave until he paid him $250.
Upon speaking with the homeowner, he threatened the officer. As he was placed under arrest, the man struggled and resisted arrest. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.
The 55-year-old Chatham man has been charged with uttering threats and resisting arrest. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Three Individuals Charged in Chatham CK15014338
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested two men and one woman in connection with a theft investigation.
Yesterday, members of the Intelligence Section observed three people travelling in a Honda Civic. Around 12:40 p.m. one of the men entered No Frills on Queen Street. He exited a short time later with $48 worth of stolen meat. They fled the area and proceeded to Sobey’s on Park Avenue West where the same man entered and exited with stolen meat valued at $65. They continued to the Real Canadian Superstore on St. Clair Street. The same man walked in and out of the grocery store with another $65 worth of stolen meat. They fled and stopped at Bob’s Food Basics on St. Clair Street. Again the same man entered and exited with $33 worth of stolen meat. All three individuals were taken into custody in the parking lot of Bob’s Food Basics. The total value of the stolen meat was approximately $212. Upon searching the vehicle and their person incident to arrest, officers found methamphetamine and fentanyl.
A 31-year-old Chatham man has been charged with theft under $5000 x4, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 x4, failing to comply x2, drug possession x3. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
A 21-year-old Chatham man has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 x4, failing to comply and drug possession x2. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
A 22-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 x4 and drug possession x2. She was released with conditions pending a future court date of June 12, 2015.

Yesterday, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Finance and Ontario Provincial Police participated in a commercial vehicle safety blitz in Wallaceburg.
As a result:
– 45 vehicles were inspected
– 47 tickets were issued
– 25 trucks were taken out of service
– 9 licence plates were seized
