Daily News Release – Wednesday, January 21, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 94 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Twelve people were arrested. Of the twelve people arrested, four people were arrested on outstanding warrants, two people were arrested for failing to comply with their release conditions, one person was arrested for impaired driving and one person was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.

Police Execute Drug Warrant CK15001830

Yesterday, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section and Critical Incident Response Team executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence on Kendall Street in Chatham.

Officers located and seized methamphetamine, hydromorphone and fentanyl patches with a street value of approximately $1200. Drug packaging equipment and Canadian currency were also seized.

A 28-year-old woman and 50-year-old man have been charged with two counts of drug possession and one count of drug possession for the purposes of trafficking. They were both released pending a future court date of February 12, 2015.

Man Charged with Break and Enter CK15001850

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a break and enter in Wallaceburg.

Just before 9:00 p.m. last night, the man attended a residence on Elizabeth Street and attempted to force his way into the home through the front door. The homeowner was able to physically push the man out and lock the door. The homeowner called 911 and provided officers with a description of the man who was unknown to him.

Within minutes, an officer located the man walking on Elgin Street near Lorne Avenue. As the officer exited his vehicle, the man walked towards him with both hands concealed in his front coat pockets. The officer immediately placed the man under arrest and demanded that he show him his hands. The man refused and began resisting by pulling away. As the officer attempted to gain control of his hands, the man threw a small vial of suspected hash oil over the cruiser. Eventually, the man became compliant and was taken into custody.

The 40-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter, resist arrest and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Assault CK15001858

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a domestic disturbance.

Last night, around 11:00 p.m. police responded to a residence in Chatham in regards to a dispute. At this time, a woman reported that she had been assaulted by her common-law boyfriend.

The 34-year-old Chatham man was taken into custody at the scene and charged with assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Driving While Under Suspension CK15001832

Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol observed a woman driving a car on Marlborough Street North near Ellen Street in Blenheim. Through investigation, the officer learned that the woman was suspended from driving for unpaid fines.

The 53-year-old Blenheim woman was charged with driving while under suspension.
