The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 90 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

Man Charged with Obstruct Justice CK15010356

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a trial at the courthouse.

In April 2013, the man entered into a Probation Order with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was not to contact a specific Chatham woman.

On April 13, 2015, the man sent the woman a text requesting she not attend his trial that was scheduled to commence April 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

Yesterday morning, the man yelled a comment at the woman regarding his trial as she was leaving a business in Chatham.

The man was taken into custody upon his arrival at the courthouse. The 33-year-old Chatham man has been charged with obstruct justice and two counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Theft and Drug Possession CK15010388

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a shoplifting complaint.

Yesterday afternoon, the man attended Walmart on St. Clair Street in Chatham. The man selected a bottle of cologne and bottle of perfume, removed them from their packaging and concealed the items in his front pockets. The man exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items.

The man was taken into custody in the parking lot. Upon being searched incident to arrest, police recovered the bottles of cologne and perfume valued at approximately $140. The man was also found to be in possession of marihuana. Through investigation, police learned that the man was currently bound by conditions not to possess any unlawful drugs or substances.

The 28-year-old Orford Township man has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, failing to comply and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK15010377

Yesterday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Chatham Street near Talbot Street in Blenheim.

Neither driver was injured. Total damage was estimated at $2000.

A 41-year-old Michigan man was charged with starting from a parked position not in safety.

Mischief in Bothwell CK15010412

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a mischief complaint in Bothwell.

Sometime between April 13, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. and April 14, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) spray painted a vehicle parked on Oak Street. Damage to the vehicle has been estimated at $1000.
