The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 78 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.
Man Fails to Stop for Police CK15002410
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a police pursuit early this morning.
Shortly after 2:00 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man driving his vehicle erratically westbound on Longwoods Roads. The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The man accelerated and was paced on Grand Avenue East in Chatham driving 140km/h which is a posted 50km/h zone. The man failed to stop and turned right onto St. Clair Street where he continued at speeds of 90km/h. As officers attempted to bring the motor vehicle to a safe stop for public safety reasons, the man swerved and struck a cruiser. The man made an abrupt turn in a parking lot where he again drove his motor vehicle into the side of the cruiser in an attempt to flee. Officers surrounded the man and he was ordered to exit his vehicle. The man locked the doors to his vehicle and refused to comply. Officers broke the driver’s window and physically removed the man from his vehicle.
No one was injured. Total damage to the cruiser was estimated at $100.
The 25-year-old Windsor man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police and resist arrest. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Woman Charged with Theft CK15002380
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman in connection with a shoplifting complaint yesterday afternoon.
Around 4:00 p.m. the woman entered Target on Grand Avenue West in Chatham and walked to the electronics section. The woman placed a speaker and three sets of earphones in her backpack. She exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items valued at approximately $350.
Through investigation, officers located the woman at a residence a short distance away and she was taken into custody. The stolen items were recovered.
The 29-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Arson in Harwich Township CK15002407
The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a suspicious fire last night.
Around 11:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to an abandoned house fully engulfed in fire on Base Road. The empty house was completed destroyed.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK15002382
Just before 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Lacroix Street near Lorne Avenue in Chatham. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $1700.
A 26-year-old Chatham man was charged with careless driving.
