Daily News Release – Tuesday, December 30, 2014

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 103 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested and two were held for a bail hearing.

Assault Peace Officer

At 12:30pm on December 28, 2014, a male attended the front desk at Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters with a hot coffee in hand. He became enraged and splashed the hot coffee at the counter, soaking the front desk officer’s clothing. He continued yelling, threw the cup on the floor and left the premise. He returned to the station and spit on a large front window, while yelling obscenities before fleeing the area. The officer did not suffer any injury nor require medical attention.

At 1:15 p.m. on December 29, 2014, the male was located by Police on King St W, Chatham. While being arrested the male was actively resisting two officers. As a result, one of the officers received minor facial injuries that did not require medical attention.

The 56 year old Chatham man was charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest. He was held in custody, pending bail hearing.

Assault

At 2:51 p.m. on December 29, 2014, Police were called to a residence on Canterbury St, Chatham, for a family dispute. It was learned that during a heated argument a male resident forcefully pushed his sister backwards, causing her to nearly fall down a flight of stairs.

The 37 year old Chatham man was already before the courts on criminal charges, with conditions to reside at the residence. He was subsequently charged with assault and held in custody, pending bail hearing.

Break and Enter

The Chatham-Kent Police are seeking information regarding a Break and Enter in Chatham.

Sometime between 2:30 – 8:15 p.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way through the front door of a Blythewood Crescent residence and ransacked the residence, causing $250 damage to the door. Several electronics and some jewellery was stolen, nearing $3000 in value. Two TVs were also unplugged and placed near the front door, and it’s believed the suspect(s) were planning to return for them.
