Daily News Release – Thursday, May 7, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 116 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eight people were arrested and one was held for a bail hearing.

In the afternoon of May 6, 2015, a traffic complaint led to a vehicle stop in the area of Victoria Ave, Chatham. The investigating officer spoke to the driver and detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage from his breath. After a failed test on a roadside screening device, the driver was arrested and transported to CKPS Headquarters. After two tests were conducted by a Qualified Breath Technician, the results showed nearly double the legal limit of blood alcohol concentration.

53 year old Patrick McFadden, of Chatham, was charged with Over 80, Operation while Disqualified, Drive Under Suspension, No Insurance, Un-validated Permit, and received a 45-day vehicle impound. He was later released from custody with a future court date.

Drug Warrant

In the evening of May 6, 2015, the CKPS Intelligence Unit executed a drug search warrant, with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response Team, on a Sandys St, Chatham, townhouse unit.

A quantity of marihuana and fentanyl was seized; as well as substances requiring further analysis for identification.

29 and 28-year old Chatham men, as well as a 20-year old female from Harwich Township, were arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking of marihuana and fentanyl. All three parties were later released from custody with future court dates. Further charges may result, pending drug analysis.

Theft of Meat

In the evening of May 6, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police attended a Blenheim grocery store in response to a theft complaint. Two men entered the store and selected a quantity of various meats and concealed them in their clothing. When exiting the store they set off the security alarms and were confronted by a staff member. They got into a waiting vehicle, driven by a third male, and fled the area towards Chatham. The employee was able to write down the licence plate and provide it to the investigating officer. As a result, the three men were located and interviewed at CKPS Headquarters.

The 31 and 21-year old Chatham men were charged with Theft and Possession under $5000, and released later with a future court date. The 22-year old male driver gave a full confession on video, disclosing that the meat was thrown from the vehicle in route to Chatham, and was later released without being charged criminally.
