The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 84 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.
Man Charged with Driving Under Suspension CK15000495
On Tuesday, January 6, 2015 around 11:46 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man driving a vehicle through Chatham. The officer received information that the man may be driving without a licence. The officer followed him into a parking lot on Merritt Avenue. The officer approached the man and through investigation confirmed that he was suspended from driving for unpaid fines. The man was charged accordingly.
An hour later, the same officer observed the man driving a different vehicle on Richmond Street in Chatham. The officer initiated a traffic stop near Inshes Avenue and he was charged again.
Tad Worthy, 47 years, of Lisgar Street in Chatham now stands charged with two counts of driving while under suspension. He was issued a court date of February 25, 2015 to answer to both charges.
The registered owner of the vehicle, a 52-year-old Chatham man was also issued a ticket for permitting an unlicensed person to drive a motor vehicle.
Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK15000627
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman wanted on an outstanding warrant.
In November 2014, the woman was charged with theft of a motor vehicle. She was released from custody with several conditions pending a future court date. On December 12, 2014, the woman failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Last night, officers located the woman on Lorne Avenue and she was taken into custody. Through investigation, police learned that she was breaching her residency condition, curfew and non-communication clause.
The 18-year-old Chatham woman is now facing an additional three counts of failing to comply. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Motor Vehicle Collision in Dover Township CK15000562
Around 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Creek Line. The driver lost control of his truck and left the roadway striking a hydro pole. Luckily, he was not injured. Total damage was estimated at $10,000. The 17-year-old driver from Pain Court was charged with careless driving.
Motor Vehicle Collision in Chatham CK15000589
At approximately 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Grand Avenue West near Keil Drive. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $4000. An 88-year-old Chatham woman was charged with making a turn not in safety.
Motor Vehicle Collision in Blenheim CK15000610
Just before 7:00 p.m. last night, emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on Chatham Street near Talbot Street. A 65-year-old Blenheim man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention. The other driver, a 31-year-old Ridgetown woman, was not injured. Total damage was estimated at $5000. The Blenheim man was charged with careless driving.
