The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 97 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested.

DNA Helps Solve Break and Enter CK15012480

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a break and enter.

On April 1, 2015 police responded to a break and enter in Chatham. Unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked garage door and stole various tools. The scene was examined and evidence was seized for forensic analysis. On April 29, 2015 police received information from The Centre of Forensic Sciences stating that a DNA profile was generated and matched that of a local man.

Yesterday morning, police located the man and he was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for two counts of breach of probation. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Preston Campbell, 33 years, of Taylor Avenue in Chatham was additionally charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and drug possession. He was released with conditions pending a future court date of May 28, 2015.

Man Charged with Driving While Under Suspension CK15012508

Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol in Wallaceburg observed the man driving a truck on Oak Street. As the officer attempted a traffic stop, the man pulled into a driveway and began running. The man was taken into custody following a short foot pursuit.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the man was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with his release conditions. His driving privileges were also suspended for remedial reasons and unpaid fines.

Gregory Curtis, 45 years, of Finch Drive in Sarnia was transported to police headquarters. He was charged with two counts of driving while under suspension. He was released with conditions pending a future court date of May 8, 2015.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK15012538

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. last night, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on 5th Concession Line. The driver lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch. Both the driver and his passenger sustained minor injuries. Total damage was estimated at $20,000. A 17-year-old Romney Township youth was charged with careless driving.

Traffic Enforcement CK15012476

Yesterday morning, officers conducted traffic enforcement on Longwoods Road. Twelve motorists were stopped and issued various tickets.

Theft in Wallaceburg CK15012492

Sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, unknown suspect(s) stole a tailgate from a truck parked on University Avenue. The tailgate has a foot long scratch on the left side and the word ‘Sierra’ on it. The tailgate is valued at $1000.
