The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 133 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving in Tilbury CK15012987

At around 5:30 p.m. police responded to a traffic complaint in the area of Queen Street North and Centre Street East, in Tilbury. The vehicle had struck a couple of parked cars in a parking lot prior to leaving the area.

Officers checked the area and located this vehicle. Through investigation the officer believed that the driver was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. A 73 year old Tilbury man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

He was found to be have twice the legal concentration of alcohol in his blood. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving in Harwich Twp CK15013023

At around 11:00 p.m. an officer was on general patrol in the area of New Scotland Line, Harwich Township. While approaching the intersection of New Scotland Line and Tecumseh Street, a motor vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at this intersection, narrowly missing striking an approaching police cruiser.

The vehicle was subsequently stopped and through investigation the officer believed that the driver was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The 49 year old Blenheim area man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

He was found to be have almost three times the legal concentration of alcohol in his blood. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.

Emergency Preparedness Week – Time to be Prepared

“During a community emergency, it’s important that people know how to provide for themselves and their families for at least the first 72 hours,” said Alan DeVillaer, Assistant Chief of Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management. “Every year, during Emergency Preparedness Week, we try to make that point to citizens as strongly as we can.”

Again this year, Chatham-Kent emergency service responders will mark Emergency Preparedness Week with a display at the Home Depot, 8582 Pioneer Line, Chatham, on Saturday, May 9. The display will start at 10:00 a.m. and finish at 1:00 p.m. Participants will include the Chatham-Kent Fire Department, Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent EMS, Chatham-Kent OPP and the Canadian Red Cross. Emergency Preparedness Week is a national event coordinated by Public Safety Canada in collaboration with provincial and territorial governments and other partners.
