The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 94 calls for service in the past 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

In preparation for this week, the Chatham-Kent Police Service has been working with UCC Media students Karleigh Murphy and Abby Corriveau in producing two videos focusing on ‘Aggressive Driving’ and Distracted Driving’.

Man Charged with Obstruct Police CK15013821

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with providing false information.

Last night, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Merritt Avenue in Chatham. The man who was a passenger in the vehicle immediately exited and started walking away. Officers approached the man to ascertain his identity. The man provided a false name and date of birth. As his true identity was revealed, the man fled on foot. He was taken into custody following a short chase and struggle as he resisted arrest. Through investigation, officers learned the man was failing to comply with his curfew.

The 32-year-old Raleigh Township man has been charged with obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest and failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Charged with Theft CK15013773

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman following a shoplifting complaint in Chatham.

Yesterday afternoon, a man and woman attended Walmart on St. Clair Street. The couple concealed DVDs, batteries and pet supplies. They exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise valued at $260.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg woman was taken into custody at Walmart. She has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was released with conditions pending a future court date.

A 30-year-old Walpole Island man fled prior to police arrival. Attempts are being made to locate him for the offences of theft under $5000 and possession on property obtained by a crime under $5000.

Man Charged with Break and Enter CK15013809

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a theft investigation in Blenheim.

On May 13, 2015 the homeowner observed the man loitering around her vacant property on Jane Street carrying a black bag. Through investigation, officers determined that he had stolen copper piping and electrical wiring valued at $100. The man fled prior to police arrival. Damage to the residence was estimated at $500.

Last night, officers located the man as he stole a bicycle. Lucas Watters, 22 years, of Snow Avenue in Blenheim has been charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released with conditions pending a future court date of May 29, 2015.
