Daily News Release – Friday, March 13, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 101 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested.

Woman Arrested from Wanted List CK15006782

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman wanted on outstanding warrants.

Yesterday morning around 8:30 a.m. a woman wanted for theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, drug possession, breach of probation and failing to attend x4 turned herself in to police headquarters.

The 38-year-old Chatham woman was taken into custody and transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Assault CK15006846

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a disturbance in Thamesville.

Last night around 6:45 p.m. a verbal dispute began between the man and his step-daughter. The incident escalated into a physical altercation as the man grabbed the woman and pushed her out the door. The woman left in her vehicle and contacted police. She did not require medical attention.

Around 12:30 a.m. this morning, police located the man and he was taken into custody. The 51-year-old Thamesville man has been charged with assault. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date of March 31, 2015.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK15006876

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for breaching his release conditions.

On October 31, 2014 the man was released from custody with several conditions. Three of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., not to communicate with a specific Chatham man or attend within 100 meters of a Raleigh Street residence.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m. this morning, police located the man at this residence. The 43-year-old Thamesville man was taken into custody and charged with three counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Public Safety – Stay Off The Ice CK15006813

Just before 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, emergency crews responded to the river bank along Grand Avenue West in Chatham in response to a man who had fallen through the ice.

The man was quickly rescued by members of the fire department and assessed on shore by local paramedics. He did not require medical attention.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that spring-like weather this past week has caused snow and ice to start melting. Please use caution and stay clear of potentially hazardous waterways.

St. Patrick’s Day

With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, the Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all those celebrating to not let ‘green beer’ cloud their judgment when it comes to driving home.

If you’re planning on starting the party this weekend, please remember to plan ahead. Use a designated driver, call a cab or stay overnight. Be the lucky one this St. Patrick’s Day – don’t drink and drive.
