Crystal Methamphetamine Crack Down In Guelph – 6 Arrests

The Guelph Police Service and our community partners have become increasingly concerned over a significant rise in the use and distribution of a dangerous and harmful drug – Crystal Meth – in our community. This increase appears to be a growing regional problem as well. The sudden rise and prevalence of Crystal Meth use and distribution has coincided with an increase in violence within the drug subculture locally. Crystal Meth use often leads to paranoid delusions that frequently result in violence. In 2014 the Guelph Police Service seized almost three times the amount of Crystal Meth that was seized in 2013. In the same period of time the Guelph Police service arrested almost a third more people for charges related to the possession or distribution of Crystal Meth than was arrested the year before.

As a result of this sudden increase in the use and distribution of Crystal Meth and the coinciding increase in violence and other drug related crimes, the Guelph Police Drug Unit initiated Project Ice in December of 2014. This two month project sought to identify and charge those who traffic or distribute Crystal Meth and other illicit drugs within our community.

Overnight on January 29/30, 2015, the Guelph Police executed search warrants to four homes in Guelph as part of the Project Ice investigation. A total of six arrests were made.

A 43-year-old female from Guelph has been charged with four counts of trafficking a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

A 34-year-old male from Garson has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

A 26-year-old male from Guelph has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

A 28-year-old female from Guelph has been charged with five counts of trafficking a controlled substance, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property.

A 38-year-old Guelph male has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance and mischief under $5,000.

A 20-year-old female from Guelph has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.

All were held in custody pending a bail hearing on January 30, 2015.
