Criminals Continue To Loot Unlocked Vehicles

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding vehicle owners, and operators, about the Lock it or Lose it initiative following 3 more reports of theft from vehicles.

On May 20, 2013 at 11:26 am, personal property was reported missing from a vehicle parked in a driveway along Whispering Woods in Bruce Township. The value of the stolen property is estimated at more than $1,000.

On May 19, 2013 at 8:20 am, a quantity of cash and gift cards was reported missing from a vehicle parked in a driveway along Gibson Street in Walkerton. The value of the stolen property is estimated at more than $800.

On May 18, 2013 at 12:58 pm, a purse and all contents were reported missing from a vehicle parked in a driveway along Hamilton Street in Lucknow.

The South Bruce OPP is offering the following tips to help prevent the theft of property from a vehicle:

Always roll up the vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key

If you have a garage, use it. Lock the door and your vehicle

Always park in a well-lit area

If you must leave valuables in a vehicle, don’t leave them in plain sight

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
