Type: Break and Enter (Shed )

Date: April 21, 2015

Location: Sussex Avenue

Incident: Sometime overnight on April 20, 2015 a rear shed was entered. Suspect(s) also entered vehicles which were parked in the driveway. A GPS and an assortment of Milwaukee tools were reported stolen.

Type: Stolen Stop Sign (Update)

Incident: Stolen Stop Sign

Date: April 18, 2015

Location: Chatham Street at George Street

Incident: On April 18, 2015 at around 5:30 p.m. a concerned citizen telephoned the BPS to report a missing stop sign. An Officer attended and contacted City Yards to attend and replace the missing street sign. Both the pole and stop sign had been removed. This intersection has stop signs erected for vehicles travelling east and west bound on Chatham Street. The east bound direction stop sign on Chatham Street was the sign removed.

The BPS is seeking anyone with information regarding this theft to come forward or call crime stoppers. The theft or vandalism of a stop sign is a dangerous act. The stop signs are in place to notify drivers to stop before proceeding. This could have resulted in the death or serious injury to a pedestrian or occupant in a motor vehicle.

UPDATE: On April 21, 2015 a citizen telephoned the BPS to report finding a stop sign which including the street names Chatham Street and George Street attached to the pole. The sign had been discarded at the Central Presbyterian Church located on Wellington Street. City Yards was notified for the recovery.

Type: Robbery

Date: April 21, 2015

Location: Erie Avenue at Aberdeen Avenue

Incident: On April 21, 2015 at approximately 9:24 p.m. BPS received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen reporting a man being assaulted at the side of the Macs Convenience store located on Erie Avenue. Community Patrol Officers located the victim who had obvious facial injuries; he was transported to hospital by ambulance. Community Patrol Officers searched and canvassed the area for the suspects who had fled the area on foot. Video surveillance from several locations was obtained and is being reviewed. Investigation has revealed that the victim, a 39 year old Brantford man had attended the convenience store located at Erie Avenue and Aberdeen Avenue and made a purchase. The victim was attacked by four men as he walked around the side of the convenience store building towards Aberdeen Avenue. One suspect approached the victim from the front and began to choke him while the other three men ambushed him from behind. The victim while on the ground was kicked repeatedly and struck in the head. Stolen during the robbery were the victim’s cellular phone and cash. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries to his head which required stitches as well as bruising to his body.

Suspects are described as;

#1) a white man approximately 25 years of age wearing a black winter coat with fur trim

#2) a white man in his mid-twenties, wearing a varsity type coat with white sleeves

#3) a white man in his mid-twenties wearing a burgundy sweater and dark short hair

#4) a white man in his mid-twenties wearing a dark hoodie

The Major Crime Unit continues their investigation. Anyone with information or may have been in the area either on foot or driving past this location is asked to contact the Cst. Keli Corpse at 519-756-0113 ext 3007
