Date: April 13, 2015
Incident: On April 13, 2015 a business on Morton Avenue reported a fenced compound had been entered. Sometime over the last several days holes were cut in a fenced compound in order to gain entry to a secured area. Building construction supplies were stolen and an attempt was made to steal a pickup truck parked inside the compound.
Type: Damage to Property
Date: April 13, 2015
Location: West Street (400 block)
Incident: Sometime during the morning of Sunday April 12, 2015 a window was damaged at a residence on West Street. A two foot by three foot window was smashed by what is believed to have been caused by a BB gun. No persons were seen in the area.
Type: Domestic/Shoplifting
Date: April 13, 2015
Location: King George Road
Incident: On April 13, 2015 at approximately 9:49 p.m. a woman telephoned 9-1-1 emergency to report a domestic assault. Investigation revealed that an X-boyfriend (accused) had attended the victim’s home and a verbal argument followed. The accused became angry and threw a stereo, an iPod, and a jewelry box damaging these items. The victim told the accused to leave or she would telephone police. A struggle ensued where the accused struck the victim in the mouth with his elbow, grabbed her cellular phone and smashed the phone. The accused fled the residence and attended a business on King George Road. At 10:40 p.m. a 9-1-1 emergency call was received from a business on King George Road regarding a shoplifter. A man (accused) was observed leaving the store with a shopping cart of unpaid items. An employee questioned the accused about the unpaid items however the accused continued to walk away without any attempt to pay for the merchandise. A citizen of Brantford observed this and continued to follow the accused as he pushed the cart containing stolen property through a parking lot. The accused then selected one of the items in the cart, a kitchen appliance and fled on foot with the box, leaving behind the shopping cart with the other stolen property behind. The citizen returned the shopping cart along with the stolen property back to the business. Community Patrol Officers searched the area and located the accused as he was entering a parked vehicle in the area of Varadi Avenue and Francis Street. The accused was arrested without incident. The kitchen appliance box was not recovered with the accused. The BPS K9 unit attended to assist in locating the stolen merchandise. BPS K9 conducted an article search and recovered the stolen item hidden in a backyard of an address several blocks away on Royal Oak Drive.
As a result of both investigations the accused a 26 year old Brantford man is charged with the following;
* Assault
* Intimidation
* Mischief under $5000
* Theft under $5,000.00 (shoplifting incident)
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Type: Weapons Offences
Date: April 14, 2015
Location: Veterans Memorial PKY
Incident: On April 14, 2015 at approximately 12:30 a.m. a Community Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving erratically. During the traffic stop the Officer observed a syringe partially hidden on the seat under one of the driver’s legs. Further investigation revealed that the driver was also sitting on top of set of ‘brass knuckles’ and a three inch folding knife was found under the driver’s side seat cover. The driver/accused is currently bound by two separate weapons prohibition orders stemming from Assault and Robbery convictions. The driver was arrested without incident and the weapons seized.
The accused a 42 year old Brantford man is charged with the following offences;
• Possession of Weapons Dangerous
• Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
• Possession of a Weapon contrary to Prohibition Order X2
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
