Over the past 10 months Waterloo Regional Police Service Fraud Branch investigators have seen a sharp increase in the passing of U.S. Counterfeit currency in our Region with a significant dollar loss to local businesses. As March is Fraud Awareness Month investigators are reminding local merchants to be extra diligent when accepting denominations of U.S. currency. Current trends see suspects purchase low value food or merchandise with large denominations of U.S. counterfeit bills. Community assistance is requested in identifying anyone involved in the passing of counterfeit currency. Descriptions of suspects and vehicle information including license plates will assist investigators in identifying those responsible. Anyone with information is requested to call Waterloo Regional Police Service at 519-653-7700 and file a report or contact Crime Stoppers at 1 800-222-TIPS(8477).
