At Tuesday’s council meeting, they decided to go forth and apply for grant to fund Wingham town hall maintenance. This massive expense was being passed off as “economic developmentâ€Â, since a newly painted town hall could attract “drive bysâ€Â. While the woodwork at Wingham town hall is in need of painting, tyring to pass this off as “economic development†is absurd. Archie MacGowan suggested that North Huron could create reserve fund for building maintenance. Most families, and all forward looking corporations already do this. If your roof cost $20,000 to replace, and lasts for 20 years, you know you need to put at least $1,000/year away in a roof fund.
Council is applying for a grant that would pay for half of the $250,000.00 project, and North Huron Taxpayers will cover the rest. This project is expected to include painting all exterior woodwork, including the bell tower, and replacing some windows on the second floor. If the grant application is unsuccessful, it is not clear if they will be moving forward with the required maintenance at Wingham Town Hall.
