Council To Consider Consequence Free Code Of Conduct – Council Gets To Pick And Choose Who Investigates Them

The previous draft code of conduct outlined penalties for violating
the code of conduct.  The new draft code of conduct lacks any
penalties/fines for violations.  This COC will likely be signed
by council, as violating it will likely have no real
consequence.  If they do violate the COC, they get to pick who
investigates them.  This is almost as offensive as Council
refusing to use the free service of the Ontario Ombudsman, and using
taxpayer money to hire who they choose to investigate them.

From the draft COC.

The CAO/Clerk shall report the nature of the complaint to
Council and Council shall appoint a person to act as an Integrity
Commissioner to investigate the alleged breach”

NOTE: The Draft COC does protect town staff from public
criticism of council
