Copper Wire Stolen From Transmission Tower Sites

(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating a string of copper wire thefts located in South Huron and Bluewater. Over the last week officers have been alerted to seven separate incidents of theft of copper ground wire stolen from cell phone transmission towers. Those responsible have forced entry through the security fences and once inside they have stolen the exposed copper ground wire. The stolen copper wire is primarily ¾ inch insulated wire.

Transmission towers located on Babylon Line, Goshen Line, Grand Bend Line, Mollard Line and MacDonald Road have been targeted.

The total value of the stolen copper wire is unknown at this point however it is believed to be in the thousands.

Alert and concerned citizens acting as the “Eyes and Ears” are invaluable to Huron County OPP’s effort to combat crime throughout the county. Crime prevention is a collaborative effort that takes an active community to be truly effective. “If you see something suspicious or a crime in progress please contact police immediately” – Huron County OPP Sergeant Dale Bray.
