Approximately 10:15 a.m. on December 16, 2014, a lone employee was working in a business located in the food court of Conestoga Mall when a fire started in the area of the stove. Waterloo Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire and the mall was evacuated without incident. Normal mall business resumed after approximately one hour. No injuries were reported. Initial damage is estimated at $10,000 and the cause is being investigated by WFD Fire Prevention. The incident was confined to a single unit of the food court.
