Computer Repair Scammer Makes $900

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On November 19th, 2011 at 10:50 am, the South Bruce OPP received a report of a computer repair scam from a resident of the Municipality of Kincardine. The scammer phoned to offer “assistance” because the computer required important repairs that could be done remotely. The scammer was allowed remote access to the computer which resulted in a $900 credit card charge. Residents are reminded to be cautious when receiving unsolicited phone calls. if you didn’t make the call, then how do you know the person on the phone is who they say they are? Technology allows the scammers to be more creative, but they are still peddling fraudulent “goods and services”. Anyone interested in more information on fraud can call the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or check online at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca.
