(SOUTH BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On March 31st, 2011 at 3:33 pm, the South Bruce OPP received a complaint of an attempted computer repair scam from a resident of the Municipality of Kincardine. A phone call was received; the caller represents themselves as a computer repair tech, then requests remote access to your computer to “fix†your computer problems. The call was recognized for what it is and no access was granted to the computer. The South Bruce OPP is sending a reminder to area residents to be very cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, letters or knocks on your front door. If you didn’t request the service, be absolutely sure that you need it, before entering into any agreements. Be especially cautious of callers that want remote access to your computer, especially if you subscribe to online banking.
