(Ottawa) The Ottawa Police Service Central Neighbourhood Unit conducted a daytime Safe Streets Act initiative within the By-ward Market
This two-day project took place on April 09 and 10, 2014. The officers were working in a plainclothes capacity and took a zero tolerance approach to public nuisance offences within the By-ward Market, such as: aggressive panhandling, soliciting near vehicles/roadways, public consumption/disposal of alcohol and/or illegal drugs, as well as interfering with the lawful operation/use of patios and other property.
The goal of the Community safety Project is to promote the safe and lawful enjoyment of downtown streets
