Community Living Employee Arrested After 78 Year Old Assaulted

On February 19, 2017, just after noon, Waterloo Regional Police were notified of an assault that occurred in the parking lot of a Hespeler Road restaurant. Witnesses reported seeing a woman assault a 78-year-old man with a developmental disability as he tried to get into a van. The woman and man were travelling together at the time. Witnesses intervened during the alleged assault but the woman got into the van with the victim and drove away. Waterloo Regional Police arrived shortly after and determined the victim was a resident of Community Living Cambridge, an agency that provides support and services to individuals with developmental challenges. A 61-year-old female employee of Community Living Cambridge was arrested in connection with the incident and charged with assault. The victim was taken to Cambridge Memorial Hospital to be examined but was not seriously injured. Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to work closely with Community Living Cambridge as the investigation continues.
