Collisions With Deer Continuing

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to investigate collisions involving deer across the detachment area. Between 8:00 am on May 16, 2013 and 8:00 am on May 30, 2013, the South Bruce OPP attended 12 collision scenes involving deer. The following tips are offered to help prevent hitting a deer:

Be especially attentive at dusk and dawn. Deer are more active at this time and more difficult to see.
Scan both ditches as you drive. Deer are powerful jumpers that can appear on the roadway with little or no warning.
Slow down. Keep your vehicle speed at or below the posted limit, especially in areas known for deer activity.
Concentrate on your driving. Don’t allow distractions to interfere with your focus.

Collisions with animals was the most common contributing factor for all motor vehicle collisions that the South Bruce OPP investigated in 2012.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
