Collisions cause Closures

On July 28, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. Guelph Police attended to the intersection of Woodlawn Road and Woolwich Street, where there was a report of a collision involving a transport truck. Witnesses observed a transport got caught on the hydro and/or cable wires which then pulled the wires down onto the roadway. Guelph Hydro and other utilities attended to repair the wires. For public safety, eastbound Woodlawn Road lanes, passed Woolwich were closed for two hours.

On July 28, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. Guelph Police responded to the report of a multivehicle collision on the Niska Road Bridge. It is alleged a Toyota Venza, driven by a 35 year old Guelph woman, was westbound on Niska Road approaching the single lane bridge and sideswiped an eastbound Kia, driven by a 56 year old Guelph man that was exiting the bridge area. After the vehicles sideswiped each other, the Venza continued westbound and had a head on collision with a third vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 51 year old Guelph woman.

The 35 year old driving the Venza was transported to the Guelph General Hospital and subsequently released with minor injuries. She was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

All three vehicle were demolished. The Niska Road Bridge was closed two hours for cleanup. The structure of the bridge was not compromised by the collision.

Minor Collision involving Ambulance

On July 28, 2015 at 10:22 a.m. Guelph Police were called to the intersection of Speedvale Avenue and Woolwich Street. It is alleged that an ambulance, driven by a 29 year old Guelph male, with emergency lights and sirens activated, was westbound on Speedvale Ave, and entered into the intersection, colliding with a Ford that was driven by a 53 year old Guelph male. Damage was minor in nature and there were no injuries. As a result of the investigation, the 29 year old driver was charged with Change Lane Not in Safety under the Highway Traffic Act.
