Collision Update – Two Airlifted To London – 18 Year Old Charged

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police has charged 18-year old Joseph Campion CARRUTHERS of Owen Sound with Careless Driving in connection to the motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 6 & 10 south of Rockford yesterday afternoon, Sunday, August 30, 2015.

Five people were taken to hospital with minor injuries and released. A 17 year old female from the Township of Chatsworth, who was a passenger inside the Jeep, and a 32 year old female from Scarborough, who was a passenger inside the Mercedes, were taken to hospital in London via air ambulance with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

On Sunday, August 30, 2015, at approximately 4:38 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of serious motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 6 & 10, south of Rockford, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. Three vehicles were involved, one of which caught on fire.

Initial investigation revealed that a Jeep travelling north bound on Hwy. 6 & 10 entered the south bound lane where it clipped a southbound Volkswagen vehicle then collided head on with a southbound Mercedes vehicle. The Jeep caught fire.

A total of 9 people were involved in the collision, 7 of which were taken to hospital via ambulance. Injuries are reported to be serious, but non-life threatening.

Inter-Township Fire Department, Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) assisted at the scene.

Hwy. 6 & 10 will remain closed for approximately another hour for the safety of emergency responders.

The investigation is continuing. An updated media release will be issued once confirmed, accurate information is available.
