On Thursday August 4th 2016, just shortly after 1:00pm, Hamilton Emergency Services responded to the loading area of Sobeys located at 255 Highway 5 in Waterdown.
It was indicated that a 20 year old man suffered serious injuries. He was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit was called in and has taken carriage of this investigation. The investigation so far has found that the male was stuck by a commercial vehicle while it was making a delivery to the Sobeys store. The deceased is neither an employee of the store, or the trucking company.
The Ministries of Transportation and Labour were also called in to assist with the investigation.
The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit as well as the Ministry of Labour continues to investigate. Any witnesses who may have seen this collision are being asked to contact Detective Constable Matt Hewko or Detective Constable Wes Wilson at 905-546-4755.
Speed and Alcohol have been ruled out as factors in this collision.
This is the City’s 9th traffic fatality of 2016 (the 3rd fatality in less than a week) and the 3rd involving a pedestrian.
Collision Reconstruction Investigating
On Thursday, August 4, 2016, at approximately 1 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to 255 Highway #5 in Waterdown for an unconscious male with injuries, found in the parking lot.
Officers attended and determined the male suffered injuries from a motor vehicle collision. The male was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle believed to be involved has been located.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation and will be on scene, continuing the investigation.
