(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Thursday September 18, 2014, around 7:15 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a two vehicle crash on Perth Road 107 north of Line 47 (north of Hampstead).
Investigation revealed that a tractor trailer loaded with corn was travelling north bound in the north bound lane of Perth Road 107. A southbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck crossed the centre line and sideswiped the tractor trailer in the north bound lane. The impact caused the pickup truck to roll and come to rest in the west ditch. The tractor trailer entered onto the east shoulder and ditch area, where it tipped onto its side spilling the load of corn.
The tractor trailer driver, a 51 year old male from East Zorra Twp. was uninjured. The 72 year old male driver of the pickup truck, a resident of the Municipality of Brockton was extricated from his vehicle by the Twp. of Perth East Fire Dept. (Shakespeare station). He was airlifted from the scene and was transported to a Hamilton hospital with major injuries.
Perth Road 107 between Line 47 and Perth Line 56 is expected to remain closed to traffic until approximately 3 p.m. This closure will allow the roadway to be cleared of debris and it will allow the Perth County OPP and the OPP Western Region Traffic Collision Investigation Unit to safely investigate the collision.
