At approximately 2:00 am this morning the Chatham Kent Police responded to a collision at Baldoon Road and McNaughton Avenue in Chatham. Upon arrival the officer observed a vehicle that had struck a hydro pole. Upon speaking with the driver of the vehicle the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. As a result, he was arrested by the officer for impaired driving and was transported to the Chatham Kent Police Service Headquarters where he provided breath samples that were in excess of two times the legal limit.
There was approximately $5000 damage as a result of the collision and the driver; a 20 year old Belle River man, was charged with impaired driving and will appear in court at a later date.
