(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Tuesday December 11, 2012, around 3:15 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a collision at the intersection of St.George St. (Hwy.23) and Frances St. East in Mitchell. The collision involved a full sized school bus, an SUV and a small sedan.
Investigation revealed that the SUV was north bound on St. George St. when an eastbound sedan on Frances St. drove into the side of the SUV. The impact forced the SUV to strike the driver’s side corner of the west bound school bus on Frances St., which had just come to a stop at the George St. intersection. The airbags of both the SUV and the sedan inflated and both vehicles sustained extensive damage. The driver of the SUV and the driver of the sedan were transported by Perth County Ambulance to Stratford General Hospital with minor injuries. Neither the bus driver nor the approximately 25 students on the bus sustained injuries as a result of this collision. The students were from Upper Thames Public School and Mitchell District High School, they ranged from Junior Kindergarten to Grade twelve age.
West Perth Fire Department personnel assisted at the scene, they ascertained that none of the students sustained injuries. A second bus attended the scene and continued with the transport of the students to their homes via their normal route.
The Perth County OPP is continuing its investigation into this collision.
