Collision Closes Homer Watson Boulevard

On September 26, 2016 at 1:20 pm, a transport truck was travelling south along Homer Watson Boulevard towards Highway 401 in Kitchener. The 47-year-old Kitchener driver was travelling in the curb lane at 70 km/h, approaching the intersection near Doon South Drive. At the same time, an east-bound white Ford Fusion, driven by a 47-year-old Kitchener woman, was stopped for the red traffic signal at Homer Watson Boulevard.

The driver attempted to make a left turn onto Homer Watson Boulevard and ended up pulling out in front of the transport truck. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. The Fusion was pushed south along Homer Watson and came to rest 35m away from the point of impact, still within the south bound lanes. The Fusion vehicle sustained significant damage. The transport truck jack-knifed and hit a traffic signal pole, sustaining damage to its front bumper. The driver of the Fusion was able to pull herself from the vehicle and was transported to Grand River Hospital. She was treated for minor injuries and released. The driver of the truck was taken to St. Marys Hospital by ambulance. She was treated for minor injuries and released. The south bound lanes on Homer Watson Boulevard were closed for several hours as a result of the collision. The driver of the Fusion has been charged with Careless Driving.
