(TOWN OF HARRISTON, ON) – On Saturday, December 29, 2012 at approximately 11:15 pm, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting R.I.D.E. checks on Elora Street in the Town of Harriston. At this time and location officers investigated the driver of a 2000 GMC Jimmy that came upon the checkpoint. Police spoke with the driver and requested that he pull his vehicle over to the side of the road for further investigation. Instead, the driver sped away northbound on Highway 9 and continued eastbound on the Ayton Road until he lost control of his vehicle and landed in the ditch.
Investigation revealed the driver had taken the motor vehicle without permission, the driver was prohibited from driving as well as a large quantity of marihuana and magic mushrooms (Psilocybin) were also located in the vehicle.
Cody Rogers aged 23 of Hanover has been charged with Drive Disqualified and Flight From Police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and Possession for the Purpose and Possession of Schedule 1 Drug (Psilocybin) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Bail court on December 30, 2012 to answer to the charges.
