Cody Martel – Drinking and Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On December 7, 2012 at 2:46am, the County of Wellington Festive RIDE Team was conducting a R.I.D.E. spot check at Highway 6 south and College Ave west, just outside of Guelph. At this time and location, officers investigated the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet that entered the spot check. The driver, a “young driver” as defined in the Highway Traffic Act, showed signs of alcohol consumption and was administered a Roadside Screening Device test, which resulted in a reading of .014mg.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, a “young driver” means a driver who is under 22 years old. The Highway Traffic Act prohibits drivers under the age of 22 from having a blood alcohol concentration level above zero.

As a result, Cody Martel, age 19 of Orangeville was charged with Young Driver – Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) above zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. His driver’s licence was suspended for a 24 hour period as well.
