The Owen Sound Police Service wishes to thank citizens who assisted an officer during a struggle in a downtown restaurant on the evening of Friday, November 27th. At about 6:30 p.m. police were seeking a 19 year old Cambridge man who was wanted for a domestic related assault. The man is alleged to have assaulted a woman who had given birth to their baby the previous day. Her injuries were minor and did not require medical attention.
After distributing the wanted man’s description, an officer observed the male standing outside of a 9th Street eatery. While being approached by police the evasive man attempted to hide in the restaurant’s washroom, but was placed under arrest before he could conceal himself. The man aggressively fought in an attempt to escape custody, resulting in a restaurant display being smashed. Attempting to gain control of the subject, police enlisted patrons’ assistance to assist with his capture. With the help of two citizens, the culprit was eventually taken in control and placed under arrest for domestic assault and resisting arrest.
While being searched at the police station, 2 baggies of marijuana and a baggy containing suspected crystal meth were located in the man’s jacket. He was also in breach of probation conditions requiring him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The man was placed held in custody and faces his bail hearing today.
Charged with domestic assault, assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of a Schedule 1 substance, possession of a schedule 2 substance, and breach of probation is Cambridge resident Brandon MITCHELL.
