Citizens Assist Police in Recovery of Stolen property

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8th alert pedestrians contacted police after being followed by a group of suspicious persons in the area of the Bayshore Community Centre. After one of the citizens shouted at the suspicious males, the group fled from the area.

The citizens maintained an open line with police dispatchers and provided updated details of the group’s location as they fled through neighbourhoods, eventually trying to hide in a field in the 1800 block of 7th Avenue East. Uniform bureau officers located and arrested 2 males, and recovered items believed to be stolen from unlocked automobiles. A 15-year old male is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, and is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice – Youth Division on July 14th. An 11-year old male was returned to the custody of his mother. Both arrested parties are Owen Sound residents.

Any persons who suspect property was stolen from their vehicles over night are encouraged to contact Constables Tracey WATSON or George SUCHOMEL of the Owen Sound Police Services. Police also wish to remind citizens that the best way to deter these thieves is to lock your vehicles.
