Citizen Tip Leads To Rebecca Weitzel Facing Drunk Driving, Dangerous Driving and Drug Charges

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 9-1-1 call to police on November 18, 2012 has led to a driver facing several criminal charges. Just after 5:00 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to a citizen call about a grey Ford Focus swerving all over the highway. Officers first spotted the vehicle west of Clinton on Huron Road. While following the vehicle officers observed the vehicle cross the center line, nearly into oncoming traffic.

A traffic stop was completed on Huron Street in Clinton. Upon speaking with the female driver officers determined her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drug. Upon arrest a search was completed and she was found to be in possession of illegal drugs.

Rebecca WEITZEL, age 40, from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with the following offences:

Dangerous Driving contrary to section 249 (1) (a) Criminal Code
Impaired Driving contrary to section 253 (1) (a) Criminal Code
4 counts of Possession of Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
Fail to Comply with Recognizance

She remains in custody.
