Citizen Helps Police Nab Two Shoplifters – Michael Aaron CROUCHMAN Charged

Just before 6pm on September 25th, 2013, Owen Sound Police were dispatched to the L.C.B.O. Store at 9th Avenue East and 16 Street East after a citizen had observed two males steal a large bottle of liquor. The citizen continued to follow the two males from a distance while providing continuing updates of the location of the two males to responding officers. Police located the males a short distance away. As the first responding officer was arresting both males, one of the males fled on foot. After a foot chase, the male who fled was apprehended and taken into custody.

Further investigation revealed that the two males were responsible for shoplifting incident at the same L.C.B.O. store on September 23rd, 2013. On this date the males had also stolen a large bottle of Liquor.

Eighteen year old Michael Aaron CROUCHMAN was charged with 2 counts of theft under five-thousand dollars, escaping lawfully custody, and three counts of breaching his probation. He appeared in court for a bail hearing on September 26th, 2013. A fourteen year old male, who cannot be named, was charged with 2 counts of theft under five-thousand dollars. He was later released and will appear in Owen Sound Youth Court in November.

Without the assistance of the citizen informing police of the male’s whereabouts they may have been able to elude responding officers. The caller’s efforts were much appreciated by police.
