Christopher HAWMAN – Escape Custody, Prowl By Night etc.

Early Saturday morning, just after midnight police were alerted by a motorist parked in the 900 block of 8th Avenue East, Owen Sound, with regards to two males seen attempting to enter vehicles parked unattended in the residential driveways. Officers responded to the area locating the involved males, a 16 year old and a 22 year old a short distance away. The older male gave the officers a false name knowing that the Barrie Police Service held two first instance warrants for his arrest for several charges including assault and utter threats. Through investigation the real identity of this male was determined to be Christopher HAWMAN previously of the Barrie area.

As officers were arresting HAWMAN he quickly fled on foot from the area in an attempt to evade police. The officers pursued after HAWMAN who was apprehended a couple of blocks away. Unfortunately for HAWMAN his new encounter with police resulted in him facing several more criminal charges. Along with the list of charges from the Barrie Police, HAWMAN now has additional charges of Obstruct Police, Escape Lawful Custody, Prowl by Night and Fail to Comply with his Probation Order – six counts.

HAWMAN was held for bail court on September 7th at which time he was remained into custody and will be brought back to Owen Sound for a future court date to answer to the charges.

The Owen Sound Police have recently seen an increase of the theft of property from inside unlocked motor vehicles with in the city. Motorists are reminded that it is important to lock their vehicles when they are left unattended and not to leave any valuables inside whether their vehicle is locked or not. Police have found that many drivers still fail to lock their vehicle doors, therefore leaving the vehicles contents and personal property easily assessable to those unsavoury individuals who want to steal your belongings.
