Children’s Safety Village 7th Annual Children’s Hero Awards

Waterloo Region, Ontario- Waterloo Region Children’s Safety Village is proud to host the Seventh Annual Children’s Hero Awards on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 11 am to 1 pm.

Nine children were nominated this year. The Academy of Judges selected the top five submissions and five children will receive Hero Awards.

Children will be recognized for various acts of “heroism” such as calling 9-1-1 for a family member, for assisting neighbours in emergency situations, and for demonstrating extreme compassion and commitment to helping classmates, communities and family members.

The winners will receive a corporate sponsored trophy and a certificate of merit. Safety Village staff, city mayors, event sponsors, the Police Chief and the three Municipal Fire Chiefs and representatives from the school boards will be present to celebrate these amazing young heroes with their families. Following the ceremony, they will enjoy a catered lunch and an opportunity to meet with all the heroes being recognized that day.

“The Children’s Safety Village is proud to help create this opportunity to acknowledge the incredible efforts of the children in our community. It’s important for us to help these children realize that their efforts can and do make a difference,” said Lisa Hummel, Children’s Safety Village coordinator

Since our first event in 2009, 97 submissions have been received, 109 children have been nominated and 60 children have received a Children’s Hero Award.

Children who reside in Waterloo Region, who are in grades junior kindergarten through eight, and who have assisted their classmates, parents or friends and have performed at a level beyond expectation, or who demonstrated heroic behaviour, good citizenship, or an outstanding safety deed, while contributing to a safer community, are eligible to receive an award.
